Director Of Data
Tel Aviv, Israel · Full-timeAbout The Position
We’re looking for a Director of Data to lead the data department and own the company’s data platform, reporting, analytics and data products. The role reports to the EVP Technology. You’ll set the direction for how Tenengroup uses data, including AI.
You’ll own the full chain, from data collection to the numbers leadership uses to make decisions. You’re accountable for the data being available on time and being correct, not just for the pipelines running. You’ll work daily with Marketing, Finance, Merchandising, Product and senior management. You’ll turn their questions into reliable data products and help the business decide how to grow revenue.
Responsibilities
- Strategy and leadership: Set the data and analytics vision and roadmap. Prioritize a large, competing backlog against business impact, and partner with senior management on growth strategy.
- Team: Lead and grow the department: Data Engineering, BI & Analytics, and a Data Product Manager. Hire, coach and build a strong engineering and analytics culture.
- Lakehouse platform: Own the cloud lakehouse (Databricks / Unity Catalog), plus ingestion, orchestration and CI/CD for data pipelines. Drive a clear medallion/gold-layer architecture, and manage platform cost and performance.
- Data trust and reliability: Own production SLAs, monitoring and incident response. Build data-quality gates that check business logic, not just job success. Make sure a pipeline that “succeeded” but loaded bad or missing data gets caught before it reaches a dashboard.
- Marketing measurement: Own the data behind media spend, ROAS, attribution and the A/B testing framework, and make sure the statistics are sound. Be the trusted arbiter of “what’s working.”
- BI and self-service: Own the BI layer (Tableau). Build governed, certified datasets and one shared set of metric definitions. Keep content, access and licences under control, and move reporting off ad-hoc sources.
- AI and a semantic layer: Lead adoption of AI across the data stack. That covers a governed semantic layer that makes natural-language and LLM querying reliable, plus AI-assisted engineering and analysis inside the team.
- Documentation and governance: Keep lineage, ownership, documentation and data access policies current.
Requirements
- 5+ years in a data leadership role
- People-management experience, preferably including managing team leads
- Proven experience building and running a modern cloud data platform (Databricks, Snowflake or BigQuery), including data modeling, orchestration (e.g. Airflow) and data pipelines in production
- Strong hands-on SQL, and the ability to review code and data models, not just delegate them
- Deep BI experience (Tableau preferred) and a track record of governed, self-service analytics
- Solid grounding in experimentation and statistics, and in marketing measurement (attribution, incrementality, ROAS)
- A track record of making data trustworthy: data-quality frameworks, observability and SLAs
- Clear communicator who can challenge and influence senior stakeholders with data
Advantages
- B2C / D2C e-commerce experience, especially multi-brand or multi-site
- Experience with GA4, web event tracking and streaming ingestion (e.g. Kafka)
- Hands-on experience applying LLMs to analytics (semantic layers, text-to-SQL, AI agents)
- Experience managing platform cost (FinOps)
